Fire Breaks
Creation Of FBMZ For Asset Protection
Understanding an effective fire buffer zone does not require the removal of all vegetation. Instead, vegetation should be designed and maintained to limit vertical and horizontal fire spread around buildings or assets. Incorporating well-planned fire breaks within the buffer zone can further reduce the risk of fire reaching critical areas, while retaining some established trees can help protect structures from wind and ember attack.
To remain effective, fire buffer zones and their fire breaks must be maintained in a low-fuel condition throughout the bushfire season. The area should be managed so that fine fuels are significantly and uniformly reduced, ensuring that the passage of fire is restricted and the protection of buildings or assets is maximized.
